PAD Challenge - Day 15

From Robert Lee Brewer:

We’ve officially made it to the half-way point of this challenge, which means two things: 1. I’ve got Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” song playing in my head; and 2. I should share the link to the poem finder tool for this blog (click to continue). Just use the Writer drop down to find your name and search for poems posted on the site so far (can also cross reference by year/day).

For today’s prompt, write a “one time” poem. This poem could be about a once in a lifetime experience. Or it could be about something a person wants to try just one time (good or bad). Or take it where you will–as always.

  1. Just One Time

On the news a human interest story
    she celebrates her 70th birthday
does a tandem jump from a plane
for many years I wanted to do that
    just one time

She laughs and flaps her arms
pretends to fly like a bird
    free and light and carefree.
Oh how I want to do that
    Just one time!

    I’ll be seventy next year
maybe it isn’t too late for me
to spread my wings and jump
from a plane - tandem of course!
    Just one time….

    2. Just reading this makes my stomach hurt. Nope. Jumping from an airplane is NOT on my bucket list.

  2. Just one time
    I want to come home,
    find a clean house,
    bed made, rugs vacuumed, floors
    swept and mopped,

    mirrors and sinks shining,
    bookshelves dusted,
    windows sparkling, without
    me having
    cleaned before I left.

  3. I was in a movie
only one time in my life
it was fun, it was tedious,
    it was miraculous
the way they worked us up
    into a frenzy
    50 "takes" for one scene
made us all angry and crazy
    enough to spit our
    lines like snakes
    made us sweaty
    feeling slant eyed mean
    children dripped sweat
    shouted condemnations
    fists in the air
    and entire church
    filled with regular
    people became the righteous enemy
of the victims in the movie

now when I see a show
    with a crowd of angry
    sweaty people
    I wonder...
    how many "takes" did it
take to rile them up so...

    3. The kids and I were in a movie called: House of Bedlam. It was Ashley and Alexa and I. It was a whole lot of fun actually. It was for sale at Walmart for awhile for $9.97.

  4. Just Once

I believe if just once I could fly
at the right time and place to be sure
I'd discover the end of the rainbow,

Or perhaps if just once I could be
at the right time and place for the sight
I would see an alien spaceship.

It is possible that if just once
I could buy the right lottery ticket
I'd win millions of dollars that day.

But maybe, just maybe just once
if I were to be well behaved
an angel would come say hello.

My one time for onces it's true
do seem quite unlikely to be
yet you just never know—for once.
