PAD Challenge - Day 2

From Robert Lee Brewer's PAD Challenge:

Okay, the first day is in the books, and it was a lot of fun. But we’ve got plenty of poeming left to go.For today’s prompt, write a “not today” poem. Maybe it’s normal to give in to outside pressures, but not today. Or maybe you’re usually very disciplined in your health and wellness habits, but not today. Or maybe you struggle to write poems, but not today.

  1. the nickel bagger
    standing on the corner
    almost got popped
but 5 0 looked the other way
    and nickel bagger ducked
    into the shadow
    of a doorway
    so she didn't get it
    not today

    and

    down the street
    big mama's sneakin' around
    with Harry Joe
    her ol' man came home
    early from the bar
    she heard the car
Harry Joe was out the window
    in a little minute
    bare butt, he got away
    they didn't get caught
    not today

    1. This is the kind of poem I mean when I say your poems have an "edge" to them. I really, really like this.

    2. That "edge" thing really confuses me. It sounds like something that is a wrong thing and yet you really liked this poem. I guess the "edge" is where I write. LOL

    3. In my opinion, edgy is good. Have you ever read poetry by Charles Bukowski? If not, search him out.

    4. excellen! and yes the edge is a good place to write from or to live on :-)

  2. I am going to die but not today
muddle through my day, need a new routine
It must be now, time for me is finite
I should submit those poems, but not today.

Muddle through my day, need a new routine
The bathroom needs cleaned, the dishes need done.
I should submit those poems, but not today,
that rug has cat fur, I should vacuum it.

I'll finish my book, send it to agents.

Daylight hovers above the hole I dug.

In a sec. After I finish this game.

Time to climb out, live what's left of my life.

  4. My husband likes hot sauce
eats it on anything and everything
he asks me "want some hot sauce?'
    I tell him not today.

    We have egg sandwiches
he deliberates over which hot sauce to use
do you want some he will ask
    I tell him not today,

He will eat crackers just to eat
the hot sauce he wants to try
I tell him I had enough yesterday
    so no I not today.

    It's a game we play
he knows I will always pass
    but still he will ask
and I will always say...not today.

    1. I have been waiting all day for your poem!!! Finally...kidding. I know what happened. I got a good chuckle out of this one. It's really funny! Paul is like that with peanut butter. Peanut butter in grits, oatmeal, on crackers, cookies just about anything he can think of to put peanut butter on. And I say...not today...hahahahahah lmbo At first I thought this prompt was boring but it turned out pretty good.

    2. Cute. And yes, it's a fun game. And I'm so glad at least the three sisters and making it out here every day!

    4. And I have "and" instead of "are" and of course it won't let us edit comments. Sigh...

    5. I think because of the poetry games we played as children that we can write on any subject at any given moment. And I am proud of us that we all have made a good showing here for this and I know I will be looking forward to getting up every morning to see what the days prompt will be. Sorry about Paul. His dad has Alzheimer's and lost his driver's license so Paul is very busy now.

  5. Jam yesterday,
    jam tomorrow,
    but not today,
    or so it is said.
    Go ask Alice!
    I'd rather jam today,
    Especially if it is strawberry!
    How about you?

    2. Very cute and fitting for the topic. It would fit right in with Lewis Carroll too.

    3. Thanks for the comments, I sometimes tend to post at the end of the day because I'm usually on more at night than in the daytime.
