2018 PAD Challenge - Day 23, Action

From Robert Lee Brewer:

For today’s prompt, write an action poem. So many actions are available to the poet: singing, running, clapping, working, and–umm–poeming. Yes, there’s a world of possibility today–all ready to act.

  1. shoot 'em up bang bang
    bad buys in the gang
    mouth off street slang
    jail time clang clang

    street cops on the beat
    hot day tired feet
    stop! police! repeat
    bad guys defeat

    another day in the town
    bad guy taken down
    cop treated like a clown
    on shooting thugs people frown

    call the cops dirty names
    play political mind games
    good guys put to shame
    bad guys get no blame

I'm being robbed call a cop
expect him or her to stop
    thugs from robbing their shop
    shoot 'em down! pop! pop!

    Shame shame dirty shame
the wrong one you did blame
    when you called they came
act like you don't know their name

    Shoot 'em up bang bang
    bad guys in the gang
    mouth off street slang
    jail time clang clang

    1. Very powerful. Reminds me of this poem:

      We Real Cool
      Gwendolyn Brooks

             THE POOL PLAYERS.
             SEVEN AT THE GOLDEN SHOVEL.

      We real cool. We
      Left school. We

      Lurk late. We
      Strike straight. We

      Sing sin. We
      Thin gin. We

      Jazz June. We
      Die soon.

  2. when I was a kid
    I loved jumping rope
    and I still love
    doing it now
    there's nothing more fun
    than jumping double dutch
    if you have some
    good twirlers there
    I love jumping hot pepper
    and backward I'm a whiz
    and criss cross amazes
    just about everyone
    not only is it fun
    but good for the heart
    and you don't need
    expensive equipment!
    so get out there
    and jump
    amaze everyone
    and do something great
    for your body!

    2. Wish I could! I was never any good at this, too much coordination required for me, who is severely lacking in same. Glad verse, though, enjoyable and fun.

  3. Action

The movie continues to play on the screen
and I sit in the audience watching it
someone is yelling and someone is crying
and someone is bound to be snatching it.

One minute it's raining, and then there is snow
the clock strikes the hour again
yet the hour remains at the time of the moment
while the actions revolve in my brain.

I watch as the players remember their lines
and clap when the curtain comes down
the next act begins and I smile as I watch
the villains and heroes and clowns.

The world is my theater, the day is my stage
I'm watching to see how it plays
and sometimes I'm even a part of the action
becoming my years and my days.

  6. THE ACTION OF THE TIGER
tyger tyger burning bright, in the forests of the night - william blake

every day was an action adventure with her
yep. she was a public performance poet
she dressed as a super hero the unstopable tiger girl
fights injustice wherever she finds it
in a dark city, a burning light

    like police constable mary duffy
a tiny cop, but tough when she has to be
she let sammie off with many a crime, after the crying and the nose getting all stuffy
    mary fancied sammie......everybody did
she once said " please p.c. mary, can't you just spank me "
enough of the crazy action kid.

a day late, i know, but it's tricky getting here. fine here for a while.
