2018 PAD Challenge - Day 21, Danger

From Robert Lee Brewer:

For today’s prompt, write a danger poem. There are various levels of danger out there–from physical danger to the danger of being discovered doing something you shouldn’t (or doing something that might embarrass you–or someone else). Even the act of writing and sharing a poem brings with it the potential for danger.

  2. in the pitfalls of life
    danger lurks around every bend
    hazards await our foot steps
    to imperil us in fear
    shadows rise and fall
    darkness seeks to bury us
    in threats and trouble
    so beware when you dare
    to tread into the unknown
    for dangers lie in wait
are you prepared to greet them?

    1. Absolutely. I always tell people I don't watch scary movies because there's enough horror and danger in everyday life that I don't feel the need to pay someone else to make me feel afraid.

    2. nice one! And I applaud your comment concerning scary movies, with you on that one too.

  3. Once again I apologize for eo-day posting but this is the biggest event of my dojang, ever. We tested our first black belts last night, including having my instructor come down from CT. And I still have to go through all the pictures and get them posted. You guys know I always comment on everything unless there's a reason. I will try to get back to the old ones because I actually enjoy reading them, but right now, business comes first. Since this got long, I'll post my poem in a separate comment. LOL

  4. Secrets slither down
    hallways concealed by doorways
    eclipsed by shadows.

    Her red lips, red hair
red dress, shimmer in dim light
    as the door opens.

    "Stop," she cautions, then
    views the intruder, smiles
    with invitation.

    Case of mistaken
    identity, so like him,
    she discerns too late

    it was not bright, door
    unlocked, unprotected. One
    can intrude unheard.

    "Pizza?" he inquired.
    Pepperoni, sausage. Smells
    waft across the room.

    Memories flood her
    senses, family dinners,
    Friday gatherings.

    "So like your father,"
she says, "thought you were a ghost
    come back to haunt me."

    "I battle that ghost
    each day." her visitor puts
    forth. "He's never gone."

    A good deal of time
has passed since their last meeting
    yet they do not touch.

    "You should, could, have warned,
    prepared my marrow for this
    abrupt reunion.

    Why now?" she laments,
purses her red lips, turns her
    red dress to the wall.

    She slumps, a spider
    luring prey, feels arms surround,
    capture completed.

    "Let's eat some pizza
before it gets cold, but you
    must hear my report."

    Words tight, a coiled spring
    ready to release, trigger
    savage explosions.

    Deflects, takes a bite
    of pizza. "My favorite.
    But you always were."

    "You loved only him,
    forsaking us for one kiss,
    promises unkept.

    Now you want reports,
    tell me I'm your favorite,
    so much temptation.

    Your velvet threads weave
    webs I do not understand.
    Tangled, intimate.

    Secrets slither down
    concentric arcs of complex
    silk disturbances,

    persist toward center,
    dangerous information,
    bleeding edge of pain.

  5. Danger

    The ant
    creeping along the sidewalk
is in danger from a careless foot.

    The soldier
    charging the enemy line
is in danger from a stray bullet.

    Lady mosquito
in search of her first blood
is in danger from a hard slap.

    A blood clot
    circulating through veins
    endangers brain and heart

    Danger lurks
    in the next moment waiting
    to transport us elsewhere.

    1. Interesting take on the prompt. Personally, I would have liked to see you take the first stanza and follow it into a poem all by itself rather than taking us one step down many paths.

    2. Interesting comment, thanks for the thought. Perhaps another time I will do as you suggest.

  7. No Danger

There is no danger lurking in the present
the center, in the stillness only holds
awareness of the now both sweet and pleasant
as day by day and night my life unfolds.
If I should choose to do so I could say
beware of this or that horrendous thing
yet that would make me cower in dismay.
Why should I tremble while the robins sing?

To fear is to destroy the future's right
to bring us harmony in place of blight.
False evidence appearing real is naught
I'll save my happiness from danger fraught.
I will ignore whatever is not real
And meet whatever is with silk or steel.
