Favorite character

This week's prompt courtesy of Linda:
  • Take your favorite movie.
  • Find your favorite character.
  • Take on their persona.
  • Write a poem, any length, any form about a day or some time in that persons life that wasn’t a part of the movie.

  1. R2D2
    speaks a language
    few understand.

    Its mate pretends
    not to know what
    it says sometimes,

    complains of long
    trips spent away
    from the home pod.

  2. RICK AND ILSA

    When the Germans marched
    into Paris
they wore brown she wore blue
    we drank the
    last of the champagne

    heard the cannons
it could have been the beat
    of our hearts
    she took off that blue
    dress never to

    wear it again until
    the Germans
    streamed out in defeat
    women wore slips
    back then and girdles

    panties bras
    garter belts stockings
    much to take off
    time for a woman to
    change her mind

    we made love as if
    for the last time
    the Germans
    rolled in with their panzers
    a deafening roar

    2. Those days were better for the makers of underwear! Great reminiscence, and fine portrait.

very moving poem! I liked the line "time for a woman to change her mind"... it made it so realistic. The imagery of the war in the background gave it so much character..

    4. I too liked the line about giving the woman time to change her mind. I was thinking darker. Time to deter a rapist from too much work.

  3. Song of the Jester

The forest is a lovely place,
tra la tra la, tra lee
with my merry men tis no disgrace,
tra la tra la, tra lee.

While I can caper dance and jest
    Tra etc.
I can be clever with the best,
    Tra etc.

I chanced upon a merry dame,
    Tra.etc.
Alas she would not share her name,
    Tra etc.

So I gave her a kiss and went my way,
    Tra etc
    Perhaps we'll meet another day,
    Tra etc.

And if we don't that's fine with me,,
    Tra etc.
I'll dance and sing most merrily, S
Tra la tra la, tra la la la lee!

    3. Oh, My! You didn't recognize the Court Jester, with Danny Kaye? It's high up in the list of my top ten favorites comedies.

    4. Of course! Surprised Tad didn't chime in. He posted a couple songs from that movie recently!

  4. ...Gilbert lay lazily
lolling in bed for a change
    he thought about his job
all the time that he'd spent
    raising Arnie, in the store...
he smiled as his thoughts strayed
    to Betty, playful playmate
    pretend house
    pretend life
    pretend happiness
    Endora, town of his birth
    what was out there
    for Gilbert...

    1. Cute! I haven't seen "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" in many years. Love Johnny Depp, especially young. I think "Benny and Joon" is my favorite.

    2. I am still scarred by the house fire in that movie.

  6. Back to the future
    What really happened in 2020

    “I need the DeLorean Doc”
I looked in and yelled as I knocked.
“Where is he? Where is he?” I said.
I went inside. Looked at the clock.

“Wake up Doc!” I found him in bed.
Startled he rose with wild bed head.
“I need your help. We need to go.
My dad’s dying is what they said.

What meds they need they do not know.
Gasping for air, he’s breathing slow.
He needs meds or they have to vent.”
Doc fueled up and said, “Oh no!”

Thirty five years ahead we went
To find the cure in this present
We went around the whole city
No doctors knew to this extent.

    Frustrated we got some coffee.
No meds here. We left NYC.
Ahead twenty more for a cure
to find what we could not foresee.

They had a cure they knew for sure
    from a pandemic they endured
    that started twenty years ago
and spread to wherever you were.

Doc and I locked eyes and said NOoo
Same symptoms as dad. Is it so?
Did we start the NYC hell?
We stole the cure and had to go.

Doc and I weren’t feeling well
We took the shots. We didn’t tell.
We just went back to help my dad.
and our time from -covid novel.

Sorry for being so late. I had a hard time picking a favorite movie and then the inspiration just came.
