Seven Tenets of Tang Soo Do

At my karate school, we do a "Tenet of the Month" and as we start going through them a 2nd and 3rd time I get a bit short on "stories" and tired of telling the same ones over and over. So write a poem about one of our seven tenets. They are Integrity, Concentration, Perseverance, Respect and Obedience, Self Control, Humility and Indomitable Spirit. The only real requirement other than sticking to the tenets is that an elementary school student could understand it. I'm also considering trying to compile and publish a book from the material so feel free to do more than one tenet.

  1. Molly MacBean found a camera
upstairs in the attic in the trunk.
She decided to become a photographer,
but people told her the camera was junk.

She bought film with her allowance,
    and took 40 wonderful snapshots.
One was her foot, another a dogs nose
one was a strange photo of a bunch of dots.

    Everyone laughed, but she persevered,
and more film for the camera she bought.
This time there were some beauties of Sis,
and some rainbows that she'd caught!

This time no one laughed at her.
They said Ooooo and Ahhhhh over some
She got the rainbow enlarged and framed it
and gave it to her mum.

    They all decided Molly MacBean
    might a photographer make!
Now they helped her buy the film
and spoke of a dark room for her sake.

  2. A nine-year-old student named Jack
Thought a green belt was all he could hack.
    But he persevered
    Till he grew a beard,
And now he wears a belt that is black.

  3. I guess perseverance is the tenet of the post. LOL.

    ...

I wondered one day, should I walk up the hill?
It didn't seem tall so I said, "I will."
But I lost my breath and had to stop
three times before I reached the top.

I tried again the very next day.
It was hard, but I did it anyway,
stopped three times. It made me mad
    I didn't think I'd do that bad.

Could I do it, get to the top with no stop?
And get there before my body went flop?
I wanted to see how far I could go.
Unless I kept trying I never would know.

The very next day I only stopped twice!
I felt like a winner! It felt very nice.
But two times I stopped again the next day
and the next and the next two times it did stay.

I finally got there with just one stop.
Tomorrow I would make it to the top.
    I would persevere and concentrate
control myself with effort so great.

I made it mostly up the hill,
I was puffing hard, but moving still,
picking up each foot that felt like lead.
I would make it, make it, like I said.

Each time I breathed I wanted to stop,
but suddenly I was at the top!
It was so hard, I won't pretend,
but I started slow and reached the end.

  4. Seven Senryu

    Integrity:
    I sing my own song.
The words and music are mine.
    Their truth is my self.

    Concentration:
    I focus myself.
My arrow is on the mark.
    My aim is true.

    Perseverance:
    My goal is ahead.
    One step after another
    I will myself on.

    Respect and Obedience:
    I bow to elders.
Their path is that of wisdom.
    I follow their way.

    Self control:
    My desires call.
    I decide what to answer.
    I am in control.

    Humility:
    My eyes see the hill.
    My feet tread slowly upward.
    I bow to its strength.

    Indomitable Spirit:
    Regardless of pain
I work to strengthen my self
    That I may go on.

This Senryu sequence seemed to fit the prompt. Tasha

    1. This is awesome. You even manage to show the difference between Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit, something I find hard to describe to kids.
