Lies and Lyrics

Let's have some fun with lyrics. I couldn't decide between Liar, Liar for my prompt or use a line from a song so I combined them for lies and lyrics. Write a short poem, no more than 10 lines, around a lyric in a song that has the word lie or liar in it. When you have finished the poem tell us the name of the song and the singer.

example:

promises of truth
you lied straight faced while I cried
and life still goes on

song: Reason to Believe
singer: Rod Stewart

  1. Oh Dear, Can't come up with a song for you. Maybe I'll just post on the theme?

There was an old liar who said
I believe I can stand on my head,
but he lied don't you know
just to put on a show
for he'd hung by his feet instead.

    1. Tasha, go on the net, there are tons of songs to use.

    2. Tasha please read the prompt. This is supposed to be a poem around a line from a song with the word lie or liar in it... then you list the name of the song and the artist

    3. Well I'll go look, Linda; but Bonnie, I don't mean to be naughty but I seriously am not much for songs these days, and rarely listen to the radio.

    4. Tasha, I don't have time for the radio either being so busy with crafts and the two books I am working on. Look for "songs with the words lie, lies or liar in them" then find a song that appeals to you and look for "lyrics to __________ by _________." then you have your prompt

    5. LOL. I love the lymerick! But yes, Tasha, I searched for "lyrics lie" and then added an artist's name. They all seem to have one. However, Bonnie, prompts are meant to, well , prompt you to write a poem even if it doesn't follow the rules precisely.

  2. I am filled with mercy
    when in my human form
    writhe and gasp for love
    as the dragon
    out of my realm
quiver as I tell my lie
    such a beautiful lie
    to believe in...
    so beautiful, beautiful

  4. BLUES TRIOLET

From a line by Bessie Smith

My baby's got those juicy lips
She's the lyinest woman in town
But when I hold her by the hips
She knows how to use those juicy lips
She knows just where they come to grips
If it ain't up, it's down
She swears just me gets those juicy lips
But she's the lyinest woman in town

If you want to have some love
Give your baby your last buck
Don't come quackin' like a duck
      Do your duty

  5. Roundabout by Paul Fowler

    ROUNDABOUT

I want to open your eyes
    get away from these liars
we need to be a single creature that flies
anger and frustration turns me to dust
    If I’m a liar I’m a good one
our iron has turned to rust
coming between you and me are liars
a punch fills me with fires.

  6. Okay, I did research and then realized I had a found poem.

When the truth is found to be lies
You can't hide your lyin' eyes

Were you telling lies, ah, the night before?
Sometimes a lie is the best thing

You're telling me lies in my sleep
All those pretty lies, pretty lies

Lies, dripping off your mouth like dirt
I can offer you lies, I can tell you goodbye

Whosoever told it, told a dirty lie.
Victims of the little white lies that we told

    ...

  7. He loved to be loved, and so he lied
Because he wanted her by his side,
He wouldn't let go for he loved her cooking
And thought she was really quite good looking.
And so he kept her on his string
Pretending of course she was the whole thing
Until the day the truth was revealed
The day his lies had all congealed
And his suitcase packed and out the door
With a note that said, Good Bye, No More!
I've had enough, you've caused me pain
When tears come down like falling rain
You'll know you've lost your cook for sure
Those lies of yours I can't endure
    Forget about that chocolate cake
The pies and cookies you can't make
I'll not forgive those lies of yours
And I've changed the locks on all the doors.

    Your Cheating Heart, Hank Williams

    1. okay... i see you are determined to not use a line from a song with the word lie or liar in it so i guess this one is as close as you will get. nice write.

    5. Thanks for the nice comments. Actually, when I googled songs with liars in the lyrics or songs about liars, or whatever it was i said, this one came up and I remembered it and thought it fit the bill. Sorry if I missed on the lying in the song, it certainly is implied...oh well, I tried. Missed the letter of the law even though I got the spirit...Thanks again.

  8. If I didn't know the line was supposed to contain "lie" I wouldn't know which was the line from a song. It all sounds very lyrical and would make a great first verse of a song.
