Guaranteed

Post courtesy of Tad.

Guaranteed. Something guaranteed. And it can’t be love.

  1. Wow, I had no idea I'd made so many poetic guarantees. I did a word search through my poetry file and found four. Here's the one I was actually thinking of.

    GUARANTEED

    Regardless
    of your troubles
    I can help any
    human being on earth
    20 years

    experience
    searching in Georgia
    Texas Alabama
    New Orleans
    learning secrets

    from old folks who know
    how to make things happen
    my method
    brings quick results
    testimonials

    from successful bankers
    movie stars
    and folks like you
    who just wanted love
or cash to pay the rent

    all I ask
    in return is
    the smallest part of
    what you can most afford
    to part with

    2. i don't ask much from a guarantee mate. if people just kept their word it would be enough for me - love and peace - paul.

    3. We're now those old folks who know things, or at least I think I do. Love your 5/4 poems. And this comment is te smallest part of what I can most afford to part with.

    4. there are no guarantees in life... i do like this one a lot...the way it reads and flows...and if my cats would stop crashing around and knocking things on the floor I could concentrate better on what I wanted to say.

    5. Tad, this poem flows gently when read aloud, I enjoyed listening to it.

    6. Interesting take on the prompt, plus good poem well written, but then if you write it it is almost guaranteed to be excellent.

  2. I think of all the things that I am guaranteed
in this short life of mine

Life? no; Liberty, no; the pursuit of happiness, no

I have come to realize that nothing, absolutely nothing
not even taxes are guaranteed in this short life of mine

my dog could die, love gone; my kids desert me, fun gone

    how can anything be guaranteed
in this short life of mine?

    1. nothing is guaranteed wolfie, except that i don't pay tax and will never have a day job again ssssshhhhhh!! ha ha. liberty? tell that to donald. i'll just stick my first little contribution under here if you don't mind? it's the " and it can't be love " bit that had me stuck.

      GONE BACK TO PENCIL

cutting our teeth on granite rocks
and the wine right out of the vine
      forgot the next line
something to do with a locked box

      i love this pencil
i stole it from the library
it was lying on the window sill
broken ladies and broken pens can be such a tarry to carry

i don't believe in magic, but i do believe in you
though i be tired through and through.

to misquote " the pencil is mightier than the sword ".

    2. Linda, the "pursuit" of happiness is guaranteed, but finding it is not. LOL. This reminds me of another poem I almost posted, "For Certain" but it didn't guarantee anything either.

      Delete
    3. Paul, PLEASE try to start a new comment with your poems. It makes it very difficult to give feedback when there is more than one poem on a thread. To do that, go all the way to the bottom of the page, and use the comment box there when you post a new poem. And I don't believe in magic either. LOL.

    4. Linda...as said in my comment to Tad nothing in life is guaranteed. you say it well and wrote the poem I would have written.

    5. Paul let me echo Victoria as I have also said this to you in text messages. start a separate thread. it is difficult enough without having two people post on the same thread. let each of us have our own space. I do like your poem. Nicely done!

    6. my dog could die, love gone; my kids desert me, fun gone

Such a nicely balanced line. Clause, two-Word phrase, clause, two-Word phrase. The last two words a near rhyme. Would not be anywhere near as effective if you’d used all clauses or all phrases.

    7. Paul Fowler, I really enjoyed your poem a lot. Thank you for leaving me a comment in my space this time. I am sure you will figure out the scheme of things before too long. Until then....hey, I tried to write you another email and it did not go through one more time. This is four letters lost and down the drain. Do you want my snail mail address????

    8. Honey, you forgot about death. Death is guaranteed us all. otherwise great poem.

    9. Paul Fowler, I almost missed your poem. You put it in Linda's thread. I'm sure she doesn't care because she is just that way but it does make it hard on us to find you. By the way nice poem. An artist like you deserves his own thread

    12. used to think lots of things were guaranteed.....but i was younger then. most of it is about guts and toughing it out - love and peace and bass guitar riffs - paul.

    2. I don't know about that. I'd give immortality a try given the option. LOL. But yeah Paul B, you said a lot in so few words. Nice job.

    3. You could be right, however I count on some other things, like the natural cycles of nature (see my poem) and the cuteness of babies and kittens.

  5. CHESS

used to stand next to my queen
    when i was her king
she moved sideways and diagonally while i moved slow
but it was my queen and never bishops, or castles that showed me the way to go
but she went too far down the board and her phone would never ring
checkmated by the black queen. haven't played this badly since i was a teen.

got another one, but i think it needs burning.....too scary.

the one with the rapier wit, who ran me through

i now have an iron capapace
    and many an emotional miss

  8. Guaranteed

    The sun will reveal itself
over the rim of planet earth ascending
    assuming no clouds interfere.

    Leaves will fall in autumn
come forth in May or April, depending
    as Dandelions appear.

People who were born will die
new souls will take their places attending
to business as usual never fear.

will glow with twinkling stars, befriending
