From Linda:
Write a poem in the form of a magic spell.
NOTE: It's time for a rotation of the line up for creating poems. I put the new dates in the header above. If anyone has a problem with their date, or if someone wants to be added o the rotation, please let me know.
Poetry prompts created by the poets. If you want to be part of our group, just post a poem based on the prompt and comment on other people's poems.
Current rotation: Tad, Linda, Tasha, Vic...
Strangely, I already have one of these:
ReplyDeleteA Spell for Revenge
Start with a cold heart and a touch of fate.
Fill cauldron with hot water, vengeance, hate.
Add one hundred rose petals, make sure they are dead.
Add one strand of hair from your enemy’s head.
It will not be easy. Be ready to bleed.
You must take some risks if you want to succeed.
To banish the evil from your own vengeful heart,
get close to your target to do this last part:
Say I forgive you.
love the twist at the end! well done :-)
DeleteIt's powerful, magical and has a tale in itself.
DeleteReally nice! Love that last line, such a swanky ending!
DeleteVictoria, the last line is like dumping the proverbial hot coals on their head!!!! Awesome way to end your poem!
DeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteI love it. The last line really gets ya!!! Well written!!!
DeleteSeven gems hang around my neck
ReplyDeleteagate in the ritual to focus and protect
amazonite, the lucky gem, to balance feminine energy
amber for protection and to catch negativity
red jasper to protect against hazards of the night
diamond, the king of gems, to make everything alright
ruby, the symbol of tender love, in this hour
lapis lazuli symbolizes the pharaoh's power
Holding gem pouch in both hands, they get warm
once they're hot a beautiful energy is born
I say:
By the power created of air, earth, fire and water
I am your faithful and respectful daughter
Using gem stones as my tools, underneath the full moon
I ask for love and peace to be my greatest boon
Bond now my spirit with these ancient stones
Thou art my heart that marches through paths of bones
I chisel these to ash making potent things of old
then change the ashes into the purest metallic gold
And dragons roar for ever more for our sad country
I cast my spell for world peace in this land of the free.
nicely done! love the way it flows.
Deletethank you! I worked hard to make it flow...I was hoping I succeeded.
Deletewow. it's a gem in itself <3ed it :)
DeleteI really like this. I almost feel like it's two poems.
DeleteThank you Anindya and thank you Victoria for your swell comments.
DeleteLovely spell for a lovely cause. I so enjoyed the visuals.
DeleteThank you, Tasha for the nice comment.
DeleteLinda, This poem is filled with imagery and visuals. It was a pleasure hearing it!! The spell was certainly worthwhile.
DeleteThe Magician’s Spell
ReplyDeleteWith ten stacks of sickles buried in my jargoned jeans
I stalled my collection of every flavoured bean
To sell in the market with a spell of yonder's yew
I conjured a smile made of honey baked dew
The Magical me was construed with every dizzy thought
In gilded wares, silvered trance and enemies all across
To brew the breeze of romance tickling up my sleeve
And hunt the snoring snorkels in the Great Barrier reef
Filling up my handbag made up shells and crowns
Tinkering the jingling bells painted crimsoned brown
Entangled to the monsoon made of white haired prince
He shall grow younger in the shadows of magic's sins
And the spell that has turned him into a lonely beast
Shall dissolve in the ocean made of oysters and yeast
Wrapping the sheets of sadness, despair and gloom
My invisibility cloak shall trespass everything that blooms
And travel into the nadirs made of never ending verse
And miens of the magic mayhem that can never be reversed
Raising a fountain full of fairies and beautified beasts
I shall be the master and also be the priest
And pray to God for freedom from all immoral crimes
That the genie will thaw with hexes dipped in rhythms.

I do love your "way with words" using unexpected adjectives. I love "jargoned jeans" which is both alliterative and full of images. ... BTW, are you okay with doing next Sunday's prompt? If you give me your gmail address I'll add you to the authors for this blog and you can post it yourself.
DeleteI love the way this flows and sings and the wonderful imagery you convey with your words!
DeleteAnindya, this poem is another prime example of the mastery you have over the English language. Your imagination runs wild as your words flow from your unique mind.
DeleteThank you guys for your kind compliments, I have no clue about creating prompts. Please don't kindly include me in the rotation. :)
DeleteI like this new challenge every week, and I love to tread on these beautiful compliments that you bestow upon me by Lord's grace :)
Neither to any of us have a clue about writing prompts. Half of mine I steal from a book I have called "A Writer's Book of Days." I did take you out of the rotation for the moment. If you change your mind, let me know and I'll put you back in. I filled it out to take us to the April 30/30 challenge. I can't believe we've been doing this almost a year.
DeleteAnindya, I just make something up and hope for the best. I'm always paranoid no one is going to like mine. But somehow I get through
DeleteMarvelous, amazing as usual. I love your use of the language bard. You are a wordsmith indeed!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda, It was pretty challenging, but loved it :)
DeleteMagic Spell
ReplyDeleteEye of newt - beak of bird
a nice fuzzy cat turd
mixed with a cup of lemon juice
a fern from a blue spruce.
In a circle candles light
best to do this at midnight
make a doll from a white hanky
cut a square from their favorite blanky.
Fill the doll with strands of their hair
the blanky and nail clippings with care
make sure all is tied up tight
so your spell with turn out right.
Paste their picture on the face
speak the spell at a moderate pace
close your eyes and breathe slow
now the spell is ready to go.
Spirits of the night please hear
as I speak these words so clear
give to this person good health
fill their life with hope and wealth.
Candles light this persons way
turn darkness into day
cast this spell throughout the land
give this person a helping hand.
On a paper write their name
burn it now in the candle flame
blow out the candles one by one
your spell now is done.
Very smooth pace. I loved it....even the fuzzy cat turd!!! Great imagery and btw I could picture you doing this spell...LOL
Deletessshhh!!! this is just pretend...lol~
Deletewow, this is so damn powerful. Will perhaps try :) <3ed it :)
DeleteBonnie, I could picture you over your cauldron furiously stirring in your ingredients. Very visual and imaginative!!!
DeleteBonnie, this poem is truly a joy to read. It is whimsical as well as serious. It read well when Linda read it out loud.
DeleteCreative and original, I am in admiration as usual.
DeleteA Magical Recipe
ReplyDeleteMagic, mysterious as
the dark side of the moon
Add an olive branch of peace
Throw in a dash of compassion
Leaven it with love
Gently stir in ideas spiced
with deep concern
Slowly add in patience
with a gentle smooth stroke
Simmer in your passion
set you anger and ignorance
off to side
Pour in strings of your
heart and throw it all together
Hold each other close and
enjoy the recipe for happiness.
Very entertaining and sweet!! Well written. It flowed. I loved the final stanza...
Deletewhat a beautiful spell and so wonderfully written. i love this one!
DeleteThank you Bonnie for the nice comment!!!
Deletebeautifully brewed.. :)
DeleteThank you, Anindya!!!!!!
DeleteLovely and sensitive, very sweet indeed.
DeleteA Love Spell
ReplyDeleteOpen wide the heart I seek
let it hear the song I sing,
open wide the arms I yearn for
help them clasp the love I bring.
Open wide the eyes I know
let them see my gifts and more
open wide the hands I wish to
hold my hands for ever more.
Open wide the merry pathway
may we dance it stepping true.
Open wide the gates so joyful
may we dance our whole lives through.
I loved the imagery. Very visual and playful with your words. Enjoyed!!!
DeleteMany thanks for your kind words.
DeleteTasha, your spell wound out very smoothly. It passed the out loud test. It sounded very sweet when Linda read it to me.
ReplyDeleteI am meticulous about the audible rendition of my lines, if they don't read well aloud hey don't say there. Thanks for noticing. The sound is as important to me as the meter and the meaning.
