From Tasha:
Beauty by the Side of the Road. It's a poem I've been meaning to write myself for some time. This could be a virtual road or a real one.

BEAUTY BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD
ReplyDeleteFrom a sooty mud puddle
in a grimy urban park, my daughter
plucked an irridescent feather.
Plucked a fifty cent dress
from a yard sale rag bag
worked magic with her Bernini
sewing machine, wore it,
radiant, to her
high school graduation
and maybe never realized
the real beauty
by the side of the road
was her.
awwwww! I
Deletelove this! It’s really well written and full of feeling
I agree! Good writing, good story, sweet.
DeleteThis one literally choked me up. Lovely poem.

ReplyDeletethere’s a day in July
when you’re riding
in the country
and the side of the road
looks blue
all along the ditches
and popping through
the gravel
chicory grows
there was a time or two
in times of spare
when it was very popular
it’s a replacement coffee
the roots taste good
so, when the road side
looks all blue to you
remember it’s
chicory
It's lovely and you captured its loveliness.
DeleteI like this a lot. But if you're in Texas, it's bluebonnets that turn the roadsides blue.
Deletethe flowers of autumn
ReplyDeletea great day for a memory party
10 years gone by
like it was
yesterday, Just happened
i see the flashing lights
all around her house
you don’t want to see that
the cop said
but somehow i did and
i wasn’t allowed
we rode along
and looked for flowers
late october it was
and all we found were
chrysanthemums and some blossoms
in the field
and it was dreary
rain and chill
dark and mysterious
like death

So powerful and sad.
DeleteChrysanthemums are considered by Italians to be suitable only for funerals. How appropriate is this in the poem! Good one, and sad.
DeleteI really like the second one.
ReplyDeleteBeauty by the side of the road
ReplyDeleteLeaves consumed by the turning
fling brilliant beauty
into the eye of the beholder.
Fairy gold that browns and withers
treasure that can be stored
only in memory's barns.
Yet there is beauty of a different kind
that whispers on the wind
humble and unobtrusive.
Softly, bare branches emerge
undressing with the help
of autumnal breezes.
Stark shapes define a different beauty
a black and white illustration,
subtle, enduring, strong.
Beauty can take many forms.
It's not defined by rule or regulation
but given of the perceiving heart
I like this a lot, great imagery. Like a lot of poems though, I think it goes on too long. I think the last stanza is telling and that "subtle, enduring, strong" is a great ending. Just my most humble opinion.
DeleteI like your suggestion and might follow it. Thanks.
DeleteYou captured fall’s beauty and timelessness in your poem!! I liked..softly , bare branches emerge, undressing with the help of autumnal breezes
ReplyDeleteI guess my head is a different place from y'all. LOL.
ReplyDeleteBeauty, by the side
of the road, thumb out.
Her mother's warning--
she'd be slaughteed by
a mass murderer
if she hitchhiked. She
did it anyway
till the day they found
parts of her tossed by
the side of the road
I love it!!! an unexpected ending!! and bloop fit the season!! Tonight it Halloween!!!!
DeleteEwww! Halloween poem, you hit the right note.
