Knowledge: the final frontier

this weeks prompt comes from Paul Bole... the paragraph below is from the link that follows

Knowledge: The final frontier.
In the deepest depths of our brain, we all hope to find a steady, informed sense of consciousnesses, and a well-developed set of personalized skills- The ideal mind. But has the internet succeeded in helping or hurting this general human goal? In other words, has the internet made us more knowledgeable, rather than simply providing us access to information?

  1. The internet would take me places
    I've never been before
I'd see different lands and faces
as I traveled shore to shore

    I'd never seen before
    this information highway
as I traveled shore to shore
it amazed me more than I could say

    This information highway
the way it's changed over time and years
it amazed me more than I could say
how it now plays on people's fears

The way it's changed over time and years
    opinions now pass as truth
how it plays on peoples fears
    takes advantage of our youth

    Opinions now pass as truth
    hate has blocked the promise
    takes advantage of our youth
Oh yes! I do believe this

    Hate has blocked the promise
I'd see different lands and faces
Oh yes, I do believe this
the internet would take me places

    2. rarely seen anything on the internet i couldn't get better information on, in a library book. read a lot of crap on the internet though, from flat earthers, u.f.o. nuts, nazi's and people who believe we never went to the moon. can't be bothered to filter the bullshit out of it anymore - love - paul.

    3. Nice pantoum. I hope you can still find good things online too.

    4. Bonnie, I thought the last two verses were very powerful and so easy to read, they fit real nice into the pattern of beats that you created. I talk about hate a lot during the day. if only there was none, we could have peace.

  2. if this goes in the wrong bit again bonita then i apologise. if it doesn't work properly, then i give up.

    TECH

can't say i'm fond of technology i'm no good at
just give me pen, paper and a decent hat
    don't have a mouse
but since i lost my house
    i have a pet rat

can't say i've learned anything from the internet
i couldn't have learned better from a book
    like being able to cook
old youtube tunes fill me with regret

can't say i care what all the buttons do
    want a real life lady
who says " just me and you "
and go out for a cream bun, for tea

sure we were happier before all this tech
    fortunes on phones
and 'puters giving me a crick in the neck
    be gone by now
if electronic crap didn't take every second i owns
just how much of this will i allow?

    1. I don`t think the 3rd verse fits with the rest but I agree it was at least more fun to do book research than muddle through the confusing mess on the internet

      Delete
    2. i agree. the third verse really should be in another poem, about cream buns ha ha.

      an alternate third verse

      the t.v. drives me nuts
the radio fills me with " but "s
being put on hold fills me with moans
insurance at random fills me with groans

      - thanks bonita.

    3. You aren't kidding! Everyone's take is different. You laid it on th line. Good job. Perhaps it isn't necessary to mention your lack of feminine companionship in every poem, or almost... Just sayin' I like the new verse better.

    4. I have mixed feelings about technology. Having worked as a computer programmer for 25 years, it really does look different from the other side.

      Delete
    5. And yes! You did it correctly! Thank you!

    6. thanks tash. the lack of female companionship does tend to creep in to poems where it shouldn't be. at least this 'puter is working today. yesterday's was as slow as a snail......with some heavy shopping ha ha - love - paul.

    7. i did computer studies at school, for two years. by the time i left, it was all out of date and useless. a waste of time...hmmmm actually every second i went to school was a waste of time - love - paul.

    8. Paul Fowler, no computer training is ever wasted. It has to be updated but, it can't be wasted. Everything I know started with a really outdated P.O.S. That someone was throwing out. But, we could play chess on it and pac man...We connected to the internet by adding ourselves to our neighbor. We learned how to write emails. So, this wasn't wasted learning. The way I see it, Paul, is that no learning is ever wasted because it can be added onto.

  3. ERROR......ERROR.....ERROR

all mine and my friend blu's poems were lost
    when gotpoetry went belly up
how many thousands of hours did that cost
i could have been playing with my pup

messages saying " will not send "
    drive me around the bend

i love my pen. it shows me the error of my ways
in my pocket it always stays

too many thoughts lost in cyberspace
our thoughts not our tech make us part of the human race.

" plastic crap and things going wrong. the future is made in hong kong " - flux of pink indians.

    1. that was your fault. they gave us plenty of notice and time to copy and save our poems. I did. if you didn't don't blame them. that page cannot be found is another annoying message.

    2. yeah. but i thought that new york woman had saved gotpoetry. i certainly sent in enough money. then it folded while i was in a bail hostel with no internet access. other infrequent users like steffie and millie didn't even know it was in trouble till it folded. " you have five minutes left " coming up on the library computer is a bugger too. when i'm just starting a message. bribing the library ladies with chocolate to get extra time usually works ha ha.

  4. The Internet is my treasure trove
    I open up with joy
with music from my past to hear,
    and help I can employ.

It holds a lot of recipes
    and images to see
which I can view or not at will
when I have time that's free.

    I find it most amusing
To peruse it when I wish,
and happy that I can look up
    a tune or tasty dish

I'm glad I have the Internet
it's there for me to use,
and good or bad, or even sad
    provide me with its news.

A treasure trove filled with delight
though for some a waste of time,
the Internet has much to give,
    and doesn't cost a dime.

    4. oh, the internet has it's uses tash. but a lot of it you can't believe and it does tend to isolate people from reality - love - paul.

    5. Tasha, fun poem. I found it to be well written with a good choice of wording to keep my interest as your poem flowed nicely on.

  6. I'm glad others weren't totally "information" leaning. Mine came out not quite there.

    MODERN FAMILY GATHERING

    My family gathers.
    My daughter Mackenzie,
    her daughter Vivian,
who had a new hair cut.

    My sister Linda had
    a hip replacement. Her
    children, grandchildren, more
great grands, than I can count,

    all accounted for. Mark,
    Brian, Lori. Arlene
    forever missing but
    present. Lives continue.

    My sister Bonnie gives
    opinions different
from mine. For a long time,
    she expressed nothing, so

    I love seeing her fire.
    We play games of Scrabble,
    Bejeweled and Word With Friends.
Meet each day to share news.

    Vinny and I play chess,
    talk bowling karate,
    find we both know Mickey,
    great martial artist, drunk.

    Joe talks movies, tv,
    old music. Son Jesse
    changed paths in life again,
    I watch him still growing.

I do not stay in touch,
    or stay put very well.
    With Facebook I reach out,
    gather my family.

  7. Knowledge Lost And Found

I had the answer and then it was gone
the clarity a vapor that adds up to none
away from my grasp like a lovely butterfly
now in my reach, now escapes to the sky

what I think I know, is but an illusion of thought
twisted blind logic, by the scared and over-wrought
who shall judge the value of each ones treasure
how do we know the amount of a persons real measure

is knowledge real or just an idea about a dream
is this information soothing or will it make me scream
there are some things that are better off left unknown
others give us light and it's good that they are shown

awareness is like a double bladed sword
sometimes it's price is more than we can afford
it seems that religions teach that we should seek the true way
I, don't believe that can exist until we all can have our say

knowledge and beauty are in the eye of the beholder
relative personally, as we go deeper and get bolder
our own truths revealed to our great surprise
a lot of time passes to get just a little bit wise
