Prompt from Tasha:
"Everyone talks about the weather but no one can do anything about it." So for this week, please write anything you like about the weather or weather in general or in particular.
Poetry prompts created by the poets. If you want to be part of our group, just post a poem based on the prompt and comment on other people's poems.
Current rotation: Tad, Linda, Tasha, Vic...
Been awhile since I've written a song, but this prompt just calls out for the blues... Stormy Weather...
ReplyDeleteStormy weather oh there's stormy weather ahead
fists flying, voices lying,
hear those children crying
too many fish a frying
oh yeah stormy heading our way
Stormy weather in the sky
Can't run can't hide
inside outside
they say someone died
because we got stormy weather today
Oh yeah stormy weather brews
He's gotta pay his dues
hear the horns blowing the blues
yeah someone's gonna lose
'cause we got stormy weather today
the coop he flew it
Oh yeah we've all been through it
said he didn't do it
but everybody knew it
'cause stormy weather had it's say
Stormy weather oh yeah that dark stormy weather
gonna come oh yeah it's gonna come this way...
look out! here it is!
Love it. And if you're like us, you're getting lots of stormy weather lately. And then there's this:
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et7SReenr_s
I played it and Keith said that has to be an old song it's too good for todays music... love it!
Deleteand no one got my error in the first verse... last line should be stormy WEATHER heading our way... can't believe I missed that!
Deletei can handle a certain amount of story weather bonita. it's the getting struck by lightning that is the problem - paul.
Deletepaul thought you might get out your harmonica and put a blues riff on this one.
DeleteGood one! I agree, a harmonica would be just the thing!
DeleteBonnie, Definitely a great song! I love the idea of Amber
Deletesinging them!!!
ALRIGHT!!!! Totally Awesome!!! I could almost hear the band a nice blues piece with a nice beat and hear the vocalist singing!!! You do write cool songs!!! I AM IMPRESSED!!!
ReplyDeleteweather huh? here we go.
ReplyDeleteHMMMM RAINY WINDY AND COLD AGAIN
" the day it rained forever " - ray bradbury.
we know all about weather in england
always wet and rarely tanned
we don't have air conditioning too
'cos we never know what the weather is gonna do
you never know how to dress
you go out and it's cold
that's the story the weather man told
two hours later, it's hot and i'm a sweaty mess
trying to talk to library ladies, with rain dripping off my hat
on to the lovely charlottes desk and all that.
"letting the days go by, there is water underground " -once in a lifetime - talking heads.
"the rain falls hard on a hum drum town " - the smiths.
take care everyone - paul.
seems every time we text or email it's raining there or raining here! but your hat is way too cool to worry about dripping on Charlotte's desk :-)
Deletethe lovely charlotte left the library and moved away......so it doesn't really matter if i have a wet hat anymore...who have i got to keep a dry hat for? - yep. it's cold and windy - paul.
DeleteNice slice of life, Paul, well written and strong. Hopefully the other Library ladies will cheer you up a bit. They probably miss her too
Delete...so real...wonderful poem...
Deletethanks tash. first time i've been back to the library since she left....tough. at least it's not raining - love - paul.
Deletethanks wolfie. heard you broke your wrist. what shenanigans were you up to young lady?
Deleteone more straight up on the screen. no notes. no copies.
ReplyDeleteMORE DAZZLING THAN THE SUN
it's always a sunny day
when she smiles my way
makes my mental clouds go away
the wind and rain no longer matter
she makes me crazier than a hatter
every day i have to say
behave and keep yourself at bay
but when she walked in from the rain
i just wanted to towel her hair and take her on a warm train
a sunny day when she laughs at my jokes
th th th th that's all folks.
" good morning sunshine " - the beatles.
lol...cute and sweet and so nice to see a positive poem about a woman from you. yes, I know the feeling of having someone's smile take all the bad things a way and brighten the space around you. nice write!
Deleteshe's gone now bonita.....don't really see the point anymore. page 5 of your new letter is just plain silly. sillier than page two
DeleteYou can make people smile just by being you! Bring on the sun, Sir!
Deletemade me smile softly...
DeletePaul, this is a very pretty poem ! Some of your poetry is very pretty. If you ever write a book, you should be sure to make one with just your prettiest ones in it. I think it would be a gem!
Deleteit actually is sunny today tash. i think people are baffled by the shiny yellow thing in the sky, instead of rain
Deletethanks wolfie. sending you a smile - love - paul.
Deletei do have a book out paul. co written with bonita. can't say the poems are pretty though. depends on my mood. my poems may get darker...my little miss sunshine left - take care - paul.
DeleteThe weather of the heart
ReplyDeleteBlaise Pascal said the heart has its reasons
that reason knows not of
I say its weather report tells all
No need to read between the lines
Or seek for logic.
Does the rain fall logically or where it will?
Thunder frightens small children,
so does anger thundering from lips
speaking from a heart of pain,
Pierced over again.
Sunny days bring smiles to face and heart
despite whatever lurks ahead.
There's nothing to dread
on a sunny day, or even a cloudy one
with a rainbow umbrella.
How are you today? A weather report please.
Is it chilly or warm for you now?
Disappointment clouds vision, gratitude
clarifies skies and blends joy into sorrow,
making peaceful hearts.
great interspersing weather with emotional events. thought these lines especially powerful...
DeleteThunder frightens small children,
so does anger thundering from lips
great take om the prompt...fun read
DeleteDifferent and surprising, great fun to listen to! I enjoyed this poem very much.
Deletenice one tash.
Deletei loved thunder when i was a child. my dog jessica used to jump in to my arms and have to be put to bed however. i explained it was just a random discharge of electricity as high and low pressures met...but she didn't believe me ha ha - love and peace - paul.
A slightly different take on my theme, been turning it over in my mind all week. This next one is actually a song lyric I wrote a great many years ago.
ReplyDeleteFeelings
ReplyDeleteFeelings are a wind upon the heart
blowing it like leaves upon a tree
and sometimes the rustling whispers
and sometimes it shouts out loud
yet the feelings are a message sent to me.
Does the wind feel warm and gentle,
does the wind feel rough and cold?
oh my heart be still and listen
to the message being told.
Feelings are an ocean deep within
washing through my being endlessly
and sometimes the rustling whispers
and sometimes it shouts out loud
yet the feelings are a message sent to me.
Do the waves engulf my senses
so that I can’t see or hear?
Oh my heart be still and listen
let the waters wash me clear.
Feelings are a music in the soul
played upon the strings of memory
and sometimes the notes are lovely
and sometimes they‘re hard to hear
yet the feelings are a message sent to me.
Does the tune reflect a wisdom
that I need to hear and know?
Oh my heart be still and listen
and just let the feelings flow.
Feelings are the fingers plucking out
notes of joy or longing to be free
and sometimes the song is happy
and sometimes the song is sad
yet the feelings are a message sent to me.
For the reasons do not matter,
and the message is the whole,
oh my heart be still and listen
to the song within my soul.
this is beautiful! oh my heart be still and listen... love it.
Delete...lot of powerful imagery...beautiful...
DeleteThanks for the kind words for both poems. It's nice to hear a specially liked line quoted, appreciate!
DeleteTasha, very beautiful and a pleasure to listen to, no redundancy and plenty of visuals
Deletevery visual tash. lots of cold biting winds around here. looking for a sheltered cove - love - paul.
Deletepine wind blowing hard
ReplyDeletequick rain, torn windpaper jags
talking to itself
Yes, awsome!
DeleteI love haiku and this one is very pretty! I even know how to tell the difference now between haiku and senryu. Haiku is about nature!
Deletehheeeyyyy, i know that wind
Deletewow! short but awesome! wonderful imagery!
ReplyDeleteWeather,
ReplyDeleteIt's stormy today, it won't go away
Damn ,it looks like its going to stay
The rain keeps on coming inexorably down
if it continues this way I'll surely drown
I"s way too hot out for my constitution
and the air is too thick with this damn pollution
it's still and muggy and I cant get my breath
This type weather will certainly be my death
Oh burr, its so freaking cold out right now
the snow is so heavy it broke a pine bow
The warmth went away and its not coming back
Things went all wonky and came off of the track
Now the breeze is gentle and caresses my face
The sun fills my soul with revitalizing grace
This is a day when the weather gives us hope
For a comforting venue to help us to to cope
Nice exposition on how we all react to it, weather or not! HA HA.
Deletegave me a good chuckle! what a fun write! and oh so true! sounds like me! good one!
Deleteyou ever been to north east england paul? uh-hu. nice when you go out and drenched by lunch time. freezing by tea time and blown away before supper. nice write - paul.
