Yes, Paul Fowler has given us two prompts again. Write about one or the other or if you want to really challenge yourself write a poem that includes both prompts.
NOTE from Victoria, the Keeper of the Blog. Please note the prompt list with dates above as well as the new "Rules of the Blog." As we get more members of the blog, it becomes necessary to lay out a few rules. Not many. Thanks.
Poetry prompts created by the poets. If you want to be part of our group, just post a poem based on the prompt and comment on other people's poems.
Current rotation: Tad, Linda, Tasha, Vic...
ok. here we go. as you may pick up from the poem, i'm not a fan of plastic.
ReplyDeletePLASTIC WORLD
all my bins and rooms are filled with plastic
once plastic was thought more fantastic than elastic
now it all ends up in the sea
making sea creatures no longer be
one reason i now write in pencil
i don't have to pay the plastic pen bill
and someone falls in love with a plastic phone
and is beaten over a ring tone
" i may walk home alone, but my faith in love is still devout " - the smiths.
yeah, i'm old enough to take it
but what about the kids? when the planet, we break it. with nukes and a sulky korean plastic fit.
Awesome take on the prompt, but then it's your own prompt LOL
Deletea lot of truth in this poem. the plastic ring binders kill fish who get caught in in. they mistake plastic bags for food and choke on them... plastic plastic everywhere...
DeleteDoesn't most of the plastic come from China? Oh Well, perhaps one day we will learn how to make it all dissolve away, let us hope and pray! Meanwhile as you say, let's hear it for pencils!
Deletethanks victoria. what are these rule changes? much as i like being told what to do by a woman that knows karate, i'm not a fan of rules ha ha - love and peace - paul.
Deletejust counting all the plastic things in front of me. there are over fifty. the question is, where does it all end up when it doesn't work any more? think i texted you about albatross dying out, 'cos they keep eating plastic lighters thinking they are squid and the plastic kills them......hmmmmmm holding on to my paper and pencils - paul.
Deleteplastic comes from everywhere tash. had some sushi the other day and the plastic weighed more than the food.
Delete" plastic crap and things going wrong. the future is made in hong kong " - flux of pink indians ( 1977 ) saw this band live and they got it spot on. - love - paul.

DeletePaul F. There is plastic everywhere. It is impossible to get away from it. It sure is terrible that no one though ahead on plastic. Great poem.
Deleteyep paul. plastic in front of me. plastic behind me. all my bags and everything in them is covered in plastic.as long as things are convieniant and cheap, people don't care what happens to it, when they throw it in the bin.
Deletewhy the deleted comment wolfie. did you swear at me? ha ha - love and peace - paul.
and the freedom one.
ReplyDeleteLIVE FREE OR DIE
no compromise anymore
no " i'll deal with it later "
no caring if you are a snappy alligator
no more business with the law
you put your hands on me, i'll break your wrist
three years on the road creates a red mist
a pity i had to change so much
just to survive on the streets
missing the music beats
and a ladies silken touch
but i am the invincible iron man
just without the billions and the tan
just need the wonderous charlotte that works in the library
with a woman like that, i would never tarry
You do write a lot about "non"relationships. I enjoy your style and rhythm. "ladies" should be "lady's"
Deletebut at last you are free to live again and start over again. you finally have a real home again
DeleteYour autobiographical poetry is always well said, and very true to life. You are a wonderfully resilient man. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteI really enjoyed your poem. It is very sensitive and real.
Deletequite right victoria. but six disasterous relationships in a row makes you forget how to spell lady ha ha.
Deleteoh, i'm free young bonita and finished your letter in pencil of course. might send you a scary poem too, that came close to the match. " it's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A. " - - paul.
Deleteyou gotta be gangster tough to survive around here tash. it's like detroit on a bad day.....with knives. money helps though. don't worry. i am invincible. i'll tell you a story sometime - love - paul.
Deleteall my poems are real wolfie. you think i could make any of this crazy s**t up ha ha. three years on the road wooooooooooooo!is your e - mail thingy working? - love and peace - paul.
DeletePaul F. I really enjoyed listening to this poem. You make a lot of sense.
Deletethanks paul. once said to friend of mine " of course i talk to myself. it's the only time i hear any sense " ha ha.
DeleteFreedom's just another word for nothing left to lose
ReplyDeletewhen Janet sang freedom aint
worth nothin' but it's free
the pain in her voice
told the story of a young woman
battered by life who was
anything but free
tears and cries of loneliness
melted into each note
blended with her plaintive wail
until you felt she would break
shatter into pieces before your eyes
then one quiet morning the news
report Janis Joplin had died
an overdose of drugs
but in reality it was an
an overdose of a tortured life
she was finally free
freedoms just another word
for nothing left to lose.
Regardless of typo, this is a powerful poem and well written as well as a strong statement. Thanks for a good one!
DeleteYes, as Tasha said, despite the typos, this is clean and powerful.
DeleteWOW!!! heart wrenching...and beautiful at the same time
Deletecalm down bonnie, it's only a typo. we all overdose on something, if we are human. whether it be drugs, poetry, emotion, love, or violence. you don't need a corection. think everyone can tell you ain't talking about janet jackson ha ha - love and peace - paul.
Deleteit wasn't a typo... it was an autocorrect
DeleteBonnie, Linda read me the poem without the autocorrect mistake and it was very beautiful and sensitive.
DeleteY'know, I keep thinking about this, so I figured I'd come back and comment again. The first time I read it I didn't realize it was Janis. It wasn't until I read Tasha's comment and this comment. I thought it was Janet singing Janis' songs and how they related to her life. I thought it worked. LOL
ReplyDeletewe have become a plastic world
ReplyDeletewhere everything is fake
just look at things around you
see what you have
see what you hold
what do children play with
it all comes from a mold
our oceans are full of plastic garbage
pollution has turned the oceans into
plastic soup in which our fish entangle
...and die
This could almost be another verse of Paul's poem. A good take on the prompt.
Deleteindeed wolfie. tried to get rid of plastic from my life, to try to save the damn planet and it's impossible.comes from oil based products though. what happens when the oil runs out? hmmmmm - love and pencils - paul.
Deletei was thinking the same thing Victoria said... it could be part of paul's poem and also works well on his own.
DeleteYes, but then great minds...as they say! Sad commentary and true, like you do so well.
DeleteLinda, I loved this poem. It is so true.
Deleteland of the free
ReplyDeletehome of the brave
and the stories I hear of the vets
in this land of freedom are atrocious
homeless and hungry
missing limbs
and on the streets
looking for a handout
where are our heroes?
laying in a gutter
with a bottle...
Love it. And unfortunately, so true.
Deletesadly familiar. they fought so some loonie wouldn't blow our guts out and they sit in supermarket doorways begging for money now. possibly the worst governments we have ever had in the world? . please discuss - democracy and communism?....i've shit 'em - love and peace - paul.
Deletepowerful words. well done.
DeleteSad, and unfortunately all too true not just now but always!!! Are ou familiar with the Irish words to Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, sung to the tune of when Johnny comes marching home? I used to sing it once upon a time.
DeleteHoney, very sad and very true. with all the controversy going on about the immigrants or the vets...well, timely too.
Deleteplastic, plastic everywhere
ReplyDeletechildren play with plastic toys
look at Barbie and Ken
there's plastic sleds and plastic trucks
and millions of other plastic things
like plastic chairs and plastic tables
for children and for grown-ups too
we eat on plastic plates for lunch
we drink from plastic cups
more than half our trash is plastic
and it goes in plastic bags
and it will not bio-degrade
I look around my home and see
containers everywhere...made of plastic
dish soap, water, hand sanitizer, medicine
the face for the clock, the stereo,
shelves, scissor handles, shampoo...
I could go on and on but,
I think you see the picture
framed in a plastic picture frame...
As serious as this poem is, the last line make me literally laugh out loud. I remember when Will was in middle school he had a project to do 3 things. Make a list of all the electrics in our home. Have his parents make a list of all the electric things we grew up with, and ask his grandparents (he asked our mother) about the electric things she grew up with. It was like it grew exponentially, and I think plastics are doing the same.
Deleteplastic things for a lot of fake plastic people most of the time. with plastic smiles and plastic clothes - yeah, when you look about, you are surrounded by plastic. oh well. i'm not bill gates, there's nothing i can do, except whine - love and plastic - paul.
DeleteGood image of how we are surrounded by it! Alas!
DeletePlease, everyone read the rules up in the header Where the dates you are due for the prompt are.
ReplyDeleteFreedom by or from Plastic
ReplyDeleteOnce it was thought
plastic would give us freedom.
Plastic dishes, pens, bags,
or you name it supposedly
disposable this, that and the other
would free us from extra work,
from accumulation,
from whatever we had to spend
to get anything that would last
because we could throw away
and get another for little expense.
What we did not realize
was that it would accumulate,
all by itself, until it practically
buried us in its disposeableness,
and until we realized
that it did not go away,
so that instead of being free
we had made a mess
We could not clean up or
or dispose of.
good job mixing the prompts!!! It was too much of a challenge for me. lol I enjoyed your poem very much
DeleteTasha, I had a hard time finding the place to leave a comment for your poem on Linda's computer. For some reason I had to scroll way down to find it. It is a very good poem and deserves some comments.
Deletenice poem tash. plenty of other naughty things in the world, but i thought nukes and chemical warfare might be a bit heavy. plastic is killing dolphins. the most intelligent animal on the planet.....enough - love and bio degradable substances - paul.
DeleteThanks! to all, and such kind words are truly appreciated. The problem is my word program which is somehow messed up and has added extra pages to my pages--blanks! Hence the long scroll. So sorry. Don't know how to fix it!!!
DeletePlastic Freedom
ReplyDeleteOh, how I'd love to be free of f-ing plastic
If it'd all disappear it'd be fantastic
Will we ever be free of all this waste
Supposed to be convenient, made in haste
Not thought out to a reasonable end
That kind of tech is hard to defend
What were they thinking when they made that crap
It doesn't degrade and becomes an animal trap
We won't be free until we learn of consequences
From the seeds that we sow to our border wall fences
We're free to share the thoughts in our mind
It's only with pollution I've an axe to grind
Things that subtract from the grandeur of life
Let out life's blood like the slash of a knife
We suck our earth's juices with no thought or care
And when we're done we dispose it in our only air
Let's free ourselves from the destructive ways
Of the secret boardrooms and greedy okays
Selling souls for pennies on the dollar
Shut the doors so they don't hear us holler
Whoever wants plastic can keep the shit
Wrap up in it tight, it's a really good fit
You won't be able to breath though I'm sorry to say
But, you'll be smooth and shiny, so have a nice day
it never goes away mate. that's the problem. like nuclear waste. our great grand kids are still gonna be dealing with all this crap - yes. i do have two plastic bags under the desk....sigh! - paul.
DeleteGood one Paul B. And so true! Well and truly said, thanks!
