I thought this quote might make a good prompt:
But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The Light at the End of the Tunnel
ReplyDeleteI’ve been told there’s a light at the end of tunnel
And hope it isn’t an oncoming train
When life is more lemons than lemonade
So I look for that light when things are rough
And hope it isn’t an oncoming train
Your anger and rage fill our life with darkness
So I look for that iight when things are rough
You tell me that means I don’t care.
Your anger and rage fill our life with darkness
So i tell you all the good things we have
You tell me that means I don’t care
About you or how life makes you feel
So I tell you the good things we have
Count all our blessings and know I do care
About you and how life makes you feel
I just want you to see the light inside the dark.
Count all our blessing and know I do care
I see the positive side of things as well
I just want you to see the light inside the dark
Learn to laugh and be happy again.
I see the positive things as well as the bad
Even in bad times we should be able to laugh
Learn to laugh and be happy again
I just want you to look for that light
Even in bad times we should be able to laugh
When life is more lemons than lemonade
I just want you to look for that light.
I’ve been told there’s a light at the end of the tunnel...
Beautiful pantoum. Made me choke up. There are so many people like that, that don't see any good in life. I think the tough upbringing we had did give us a better perspective on life than those who were raised having everything they wanted.
DeleteWOW!!! This is a magnificent poem and he sentiment is so right on too. I hope that whomever it is addressed to can hear it!
DeleteAwesome pantoum. Very well written. Read sweet aloud. Some people are just unhappy people and like Vik said our tough upbringing gave us something other people just don't have. We are never bored, happy people.
DeleteWhen your hair has turned to gray.
ReplyDeleteWhen your children have gone away.
Don't hang at the park or sit in the dark.
Turn on the light in your brain.
When your children have gone away.
It's time to take a ride on the fun train.
Turn on the light in your brain.
So you can see all the things there are to do.
It's time to take a ride on the fun train.
If you're hooked to a spouse bring them along.
So you can see all the things there to do.
Every light illuminates a powerful glow.
If you're hooked to a spouse bring them along
because nobody ever feels low.
Every light illuminates a powerful glow.
You'll never run out of things to do.
Because nobody ever feels low.
There's berries to pick and flowers to sniff.
You'll never run out of things to do.
There's tiny furry animals to snuggle.
There's berries to pick and flowers to sniff,
rockers to rock in and swings to swing.
There's tiny furry animals to snuggle.
Poetry readings and sing-a-longs,
rockers to rock in and swings to swing.
Everything gray haired people desire.
Poetry reading and sing-a-longs.
There's golf for some, swimming for others.
Everything gray haired people desire,
Dancing, music, lessons, self defense and art.
There's golf for some and swimming for others,
just turn on the light and open your heart.
Dancing, music, lessons, self defense and art.
Don't hang at the park or sit in the dark,
just turn on the light and open your heart.
When your hair has turned to gray.
Wow. A long pantoum. And yes, growing old doesn't have to be depressing. I'm glad you wrote a pantoum too. I wanted to write one but Bonnie had done one. Now that you have too, it's more like joining a group. LOL
Deleteyou got that right! good take on the prompt! too many people feel lost with empty nest syndrome but really as you say it's your time to enjoy life again...so go for it and go to the light :-)
ReplyDeleteWalk into the darkness.
ReplyDeleteIt's not going away.
Bring into being light
created inside you.
It's not going way,
this eclipsed world
created inside you.
Only you can change it,
this eclipsed world.
Bring into being light.
Only you can change it.
Walk into the darkness.
profound and poignant...and so true... so many don't realize the light they seek is already inside them they just have to bring it out.
DeleteYou said a lot in a few words. I love this pantoum! We all wrote pantoums this time. The light is inside of us and a lot of people miss it...they don't even know...
DeleteYour poem and mine have some similarities, and I hadn't read yours until just now. I think each poem is interestingly typical of each of us. Fun!
DeleteMARCH 2003
ReplyDeletePast the paint chipped folding
chair with the oil
smeared T shirt
hung over the back
past the gouged rust speckled
wrought iron gate
round the dog
lying indifferent
in the boot rutted path
we come to a
half shut door
what's beyond it is
irrelevant except
for where shadows
overlap
dust and light plays tricks
then back along the path
the dog stretches
and follows
the fence gleams fresh paint
the shirt on the chair reads
give peace a chance
on the street
dust is kicking up
and dogs are dispersing
There's not a whole lot of light in this one, but there is a little.
DeleteI think there is enough light in this poem to rate it a good poem for the prompt. I love this poem for all the imagery is brings out. The half shut door, the shirt on the chair...and the light playing tricks...just plain life
DeleteThere is enough light for the prompt. And I love the t-shirt on the chair coming back around in the last stanza. Give peace a chance.
DeleteLots of wonderful imagery here. Very evocative. Is there a symbolic element? It reminds me of a dream sequence.
Deletei like this one... i like the way it goes from one image to a completely opposite one as enter and then leave. we wonder which is real or perhaps both are the reality depending on how we look at it.
ReplyDeleteTurn on the Light
ReplyDeleteWhen the skies are dark and gloomy
and the path is dim and drear,
turn on the light.
The light will show your feet the way to go.
When you can't see a solution
there is one thing you can do,
turn on the light.
The light will show your mind the way to go.
When your poor heart has been broken
and you're filled with sad regret,
turn on the light.
The light will show your heart the way to go.
The light of truth shines bright within
it will illuminate your way,
turn on the light.
The light will guide you true.
Better late than never, folks, sorry, I have been turning this over in my mind all week and finally this is what came. Good efforts all of you. Happy Fourth to all.
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot. I also see the limitations of my own prompt. It produced many similar poems. I will try to be more general next time. Maybe I should just let the light guide me true. LOL
