Let's have some fun with lyrics. I couldn't decide between Liar, Liar for my prompt or use a line from a song so I combined them for lies and lyrics. Write a short poem, no more than 10 lines, around a lyric in a song that has the word lie or liar in it. When you have finished the poem tell us the name of the song and the singer.
example:
promises of truth
you lied straight faced while I cried
and life still goes on
song: Reason to Believe
singer: Rod Stewart
Poetry prompts created by the poets. If you want to be part of our group, just post a poem based on the prompt and comment on other people's poems.
Current rotation: Tad, Linda, Tasha, Vic...

Oh Dear, Can't come up with a song for you. Maybe I'll just post on the theme?
ReplyDeleteThere was an old liar who said
I believe I can stand on my head,
but he lied don't you know
just to put on a show
for he'd hung by his feet instead.
Tasha, go on the net, there are tons of songs to use.
DeleteTasha please read the prompt. This is supposed to be a poem around a line from a song with the word lie or liar in it... then you list the name of the song and the artist
DeleteWell I'll go look, Linda; but Bonnie, I don't mean to be naughty but I seriously am not much for songs these days, and rarely listen to the radio.
DeleteTasha, I don't have time for the radio either being so busy with crafts and the two books I am working on. Look for "songs with the words lie, lies or liar in them" then find a song that appeals to you and look for "lyrics to __________ by _________." then you have your prompt
DeleteLOL. I love the lymerick! But yes, Tasha, I searched for "lyrics lie" and then added an artist's name. They all seem to have one. However, Bonnie, prompts are meant to, well , prompt you to write a poem even if it doesn't follow the rules precisely.
Deletethis wasn't even close and yes they are meant to prompt but this one is ,,, oh never mind! do what you want and ignore the prompt.
DeleteI am filled with mercy
ReplyDeletewhen in my human form
writhe and gasp for love
as the dragon
out of my realm
quiver as I tell my lie
such a beautiful lie
to believe in...
so beautiful, beautiful
Taken from: Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds to Mars
awesome!!! so beautiful, beautiful! love it!
DeleteVery surreal. I like this a lot. Never heard of that song or artist.
DeleteVery surreal. I like this a lot. Never heard of that song or artist.
DeleteI like. Sounds like she's already morphing from human to dragon in the third line.
DeleteYes, this is awesome!! It is the way of life. I really enjoyed this prompt. I thought it was very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteBLUES TRIOLET
ReplyDeleteFrom a line by Bessie Smith
My baby's got those juicy lips
She's the lyinest woman in town
But when I hold her by the hips
She knows how to use those juicy lips
She knows just where they come to grips
If it ain't up, it's down
She swears just me gets those juicy lips
But she's the lyinest woman in town
Very fun poem!!! I enjoyed it very much!!! Of course I picture a black woman with big juicy lips...and plenty of hips...LOL
Deletelmao! that last line cracked me up! what is the name of the song? love this one!
Delete"Do Your Duty." Here's a sample verse
DeleteIf you want to have some love
Give your baby your last buck
Don't come quackin' like a duck
Do your duty
Cute one.
DeleteYou really to have that innate ability to paint a picture with your words no matter the subject matter.
DeleteTad, this poem made me smile. It is very whimsical and funny. I enjoyed it very much.
DeleteRoundabout by Paul Fowler
ReplyDeleteROUNDABOUT
I want to open your eyes
get away from these liars
we need to be a single creature that flies
anger and frustration turns me to dust
If I’m a liar I’m a good one
our iron has turned to rust
coming between you and me are liars
a punch fills me with fires.
Paul forgot his FB password and unfortunately so have I so this is posted under anonymous until one of us remembers his password :-).
Deletelove this one! tells a sad story... and I just realized I forgot to add the song and artists for him so here it is...
song: Good Liar
artist: Blind Faith
This is a pretty good poem!! I like "our iron has turned to rust" It has a lot of good imagery in it.
DeleteThanks for posting his poem. I thought it was very good, myself. It is part of a long cycle about a woman he knows. (shakes head) poor guy. (sigh)
DeleteLinda, you can comment here using "Name/URL" and at least get his name attached if you ever need to do it again.
DeleteI like the images you present here. It's as if each of them could become a poem of its own.
DeletePaul, glad to see you here, welcome to the club. Your poem packed a powerful "punch"!
DeleteOkay, I did research and then realized I had a found poem.
ReplyDeleteWhen the truth is found to be lies
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
Were you telling lies, ah, the night before?
Sometimes a lie is the best thing
You're telling me lies in my sleep
All those pretty lies, pretty lies
Lies, dripping off your mouth like dirt
I can offer you lies, I can tell you goodbye
Whosoever told it, told a dirty lie.
Victims of the little white lies that we told
...
By line:
- Somebody to Love, Jefferson Airplane
- Lyin' Eyes, Eagles
- The Night Before, The Beatles
- Telling Stories, Tracy Chapman
- Don't Make Promises, Joan Baez
- Last Time I Saw Richard, Joni Mitchell
- Lies, The Rolling Stones
- Shoe Box, Barenaked Ladies
- Dirty Lies, Bob Dylan
- Dirty White Lies, Bruce Springsteen
awesome!!! love it!
DeleteWow!!!! I love it!!! It sounds like you just made it up for the prompt. How do you manage to stay so organized? I think this is a terrific poem to say the least.
DeleteVictoria, This is a fine conglomeration of small poems. Good job. I enjoyed it very much.

ReplyDeleteHe loved to be loved, and so he lied
Because he wanted her by his side,
He wouldn't let go for he loved her cooking
And thought she was really quite good looking.
And so he kept her on his string
Pretending of course she was the whole thing
Until the day the truth was revealed
The day his lies had all congealed
And his suitcase packed and out the door
With a note that said, Good Bye, No More!
I've had enough, you've caused me pain
When tears come down like falling rain
You'll know you've lost your cook for sure
Those lies of yours I can't endure
Forget about that chocolate cake
The pies and cookies you can't make
I'll not forgive those lies of yours
And I've changed the locks on all the doors.
Your Cheating Heart, Hank Williams
There!
okay... i see you are determined to not use a line from a song with the word lie or liar in it so i guess this one is as close as you will get. nice write.
DeleteYep, nice write Tasha. Good rhyme and rhythm. Great imagery.
DeleteGood. I wonder if you considered "He told her he thought she was quite good looking."
DeleteWow. The other was cute. This one is powerful!
DeleteThanks for the nice comments. Actually, when I googled songs with liars in the lyrics or songs about liars, or whatever it was i said, this one came up and I remembered it and thought it fit the bill. Sorry if I missed on the lying in the song, it certainly is implied...oh well, I tried. Missed the letter of the law even though I got the spirit...Thanks again.
DeleteTasha, nice poem. I enjoyed it very much.
DeleteIf I didn't know the line was supposed to contain "lie" I wouldn't know which was the line from a song. It all sounds very lyrical and would make a great first verse of a song.
ReplyDeleteWHY DO YOU LIE TO ME TO MAKE ME LOVE YOU
ReplyDeleteyou don't have to lie
I love you, so be truthful, please
I want love easily free
Lier by Firelight
I understand the sentiment of this poem...why do people feel they have to lie. short and too the point. good job.
DeleteI like this. You said a lot in 17 words. In fact you told a whole story...
DeleteBonnie, this is a great little poem. I enjoyed it very much. "fools believe and liars lie"... Nice.
